In an interesting development, a survey conducted by real estate site RENTcafe shows that over half of that 7,000 New York participants are not afraid to move into a new home despite the unknown conditions from COVID-19.
Apartment leases are ending. Although some are attempting to extend until safe conditions, the survey indicates that 56% of participants are ready to up-and-leave. The number has only dropped 4% from the last time the survey was conducted on March 18th.
17% of respondents said they were staying put until the city reopens. This number did not move from the last time the survey was conducted. The rest of the participants remain unsure of what they feel comfortable with. They want to put off their home search for a few weeks and test the waters.
People are realizing that they want to get ahead of the apartment hunt, even if they are unsure of moving during these current conditions. Brokers saw a 6% bump in renters requesting virtual tours.
