At the end of March, residential landlords wondered whether tenants would be able to pay April rent on time while we’re in a time of crisis. They were worried about a domino effect, which would ultimately be devastating to not only the real estate industry, but to the economy as a whole.
According to Crain’s New York, housing landlords are pleased to report that, for now, most tenants were able to pay their rent at the beginning of the month.
Although most residential tenants were able to make full payments, many landlords were able to afford to make a payment arrangement with the tenants who need it most.
Chris Athineos and his family own nine buildings in Brooklyn. They have owned their properties for more than fifty years so they understand tenants sometimes go through a crisis.
“[At] some point or another, we’ve had tenants in crisis,” said Athineos.
He acknowledged that his family always made accommodations for tenants who have gone through life-changing experiences — whether they lost their job or there was a death in the family.
