Hotel Owners Not Letting Their Space Go To Waste

Once the coronavirus began to spread rapidly, hotel room cancellations began. Mass gatherings were banned and suddenly hotels seemed to have no purpose. But why let valuable space go to waste?

Silas Patel, the owner of a Clarion Pointe branded hotel in Rochester, NY, found a reason for his building to exist. He ended up offering his 43-room property to local authorities for use as a quarantine facility, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The building is only being used right now for the victims who have tested positive for coronavirus in the area. Sure enough, Patel offered the two people in mandatory quarantine a reasonable lease for them to isolate themselves.

“Within one hour, they came to see the site, and within three hours they had a lease produced for us,” said Mr. Patel. “We signed it as of the 18th [of March], they operate the hotel.”

There are too many situations where an individual catches the virus, but they have no place to isolate themselves. For some, the answer is to isolate in a single room while the rest of the family remains outside. Mr. Patel understands the importance of a quarantine space (his wife is a registered nurse).

Hotels throughout the United States are closing its doors due to a lack of business, but those hotel operators who converted their space for medical use are paid by the government. Hotel employees remain employed as they need to provide laundry service and food for the ones in quarantine.
