According to Bloomberg, Eleven Madison Park (largely considered the “world’s best restaurant”), may not return to business when the city opens up.
According to Michelin-starred chef Daniel Humm, the head chef of the restaurant, told Bloomberg that he may not reopen the doors to his establishment once it is deemed safe to do so.
During this crazy time, Humm turned his legendary restaurant, which will charge $30 for an appetizer alone, into a commissary kitchen, feeding the ones in need. He currently works along with NYC-based nonprofit Rethink Food. They are able to give out 3,000 meals a day.
Although you may think that Humm will shut the doors to Eleven Madison Park due to financial issues, this is not necessarily the case.
“I don’t need to feed the 1% anymore,” he said to Bloomberg. "The infrastructure to end hunger needs to come out of the restaurants. Any way that EMP reopens — and it's like a blank canvas right now, we would need to redefine what luxury means — it will also be an opportunity to continue to feed people who don't have anything,”
Rethink has served around 15,000 meals per week. With the collaboration with such a prestigious establishment, they were able to up their number to 25,000 per week.
